Sustainability at SAP
Our Labor Principles
A signatory of the UN Global Compact since 2000, we believe that business has a responsibility to respect human rights and fundamental principles in the workplace. We also believe that collaboration between companies, governments, investors, and civil society has the potential to greatly increase protection for human rights and labor standards globally.
Four fundamental principles and rights at work were laid down in the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, adopted in 1998 by the International Labor Conference. At SAP, we respect the values of this declaration in our daily business.
We are committed to respect our employees' fundamental rights at work. Managers are responsible for ensuring adherence to our global personnel policies and guidelines. Our Global Purchasing Policy requires the protection of labor principles and related human rights by our suppliers. We will abide by our policies or local law, whichever sets higher standards.
SAP supports and respects the protection of international labor standards within our sphere of influence:
- Freely-chosen employment – We ensure that no forced, bonded, or involuntary prison labor is used in the production of SAP products or services. We ensure that the overall terms of employment are voluntary.
- No discrimination – We prohibit discrimination based on race, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ethnicity, religion, disability, union membership, or political affiliation.
- Freedom of association and collective bargaining – We respect the rights of workers to organize labor unions in accordance with local laws and established practice.
- No child labor – We comply with local minimum age laws and requirements and do not employ child labor.
- Minimum wages – We make sure that our workers are compensated with wages and benefits that meet or exceed the legally required minimum.
- No harsh or inhumane treatment – We prohibit physical abuse, harassment, or the threat of either.
- Working hours – We guarantee our employees' right for recovery and leisure time in accordance with local labor laws.
- Health and safety – We provide a safe and health-promoting workplace for our employees worldwide.
